For safety and balance, players are split into three leagues by age. Teams are picked at random by lottery draw to keep them even. Coaches have their own children — plus siblings in the same league — on their team, but other team or coach requests can't be accommodated.

Every registered player receives a mouthguard at the start of the season and a team jersey to keep. Each flag player also sells 10 raffle tickets ($5 each), with tickets and money turned in on or before the first practice.
